With the critical need for accurate and complete technical information for maintenance personnel in the military, advances have been made to provide that information online to the point where electronic access to the information involves nothing more futuristic than a laptop computer and access to a database. Though this does not sound very exciting, it is an evolution over previous generations of printed manuals and written procedures of information about equipment that the military operates and maintains. This online maintenance information is sometimes referred to as an Interactive Electronic Technical Manual or IETM, but as you can see, there is nothing very unique about this compared to other documentation efforts - get the information in a database, provide it online as needed, and make it interactive for easy access by the user. - interactive multimedia instruction, IMI
- performance support systems, PSS
- user assistance, UA
